History

Belinda’s Dream was bred in Texas by Dr. Robert Basye, a mathematics professor passionate about roses. It was introduced in 1992 and named after the daughter of one of Dr. Basye’s friends. This rose was the first to receive the prestigious Earth-Kind® designation, highlighting its ability to thrive with minimal care and its resilience in challenging climates.

Growing and Maintenance Tips

  • Light: Thrives in full sun, requiring at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily.
  • Soil: Prefers well-draining soil with a slightly acidic to neutral pH.
  • Watering: Needs regular watering, especially during dry spells, but avoid overwatering.
  • Fertilizer: Apply a balanced rose fertilizer in early spring and mid-summer to encourage healthy growth and blooms.
  • Pruning: Prune in late winter or early spring to remove dead or diseased canes and shape the plant.
  • Pest and Disease Resistance: Highly resistant to common rose diseases like black spot and mildew, making it a low-maintenance choice.

Belinda’s Dream is hardy in USDA zones 5–9 and is well-suited for hot, humid climates. Its continuous blooming and low-maintenance nature make it an excellent addition to formal and informal gardens.
